as the season approaches and 09' closes in...

So, here we are.

Another year older, (possibly fatter), wiser? Probably definitely poorer & perhaps another year more disgruntled and forgetting about the things you do have.

If you constantly find yourself b*tching about your job that doesn't appreciate you, your families, the price of gas, the price of groceries, or the traffic on the way to wherever it is you're going at the minute, consider this...

The world is full of heartache. Most of us who are so unhappy and quick to judge and complain have never dealt with heartaches. Some days, do you find it even difficult to smile? Or do you have to take tylenol PM just to get to sleep because you're so worried about the mortgage? Or the endless cycle of debt you've gotten yourself into? Please remember it's only money and this too shall pass.

So many families have children that are terminally ill, so many people are losing their homes & their jobs. I ask you, please take this minute to think about the things you do have. Your child/children's smiling faces. Waking up to the love of your life every day. Having good meals in your bellies. (even if the meal is ramen noodles), having a say in the direction of your country and the freedom to say what you think.

I'm not a new age-ist or ANYTHING of the sort, but the only thing that has gotten me through this crappy recession is learning to appreciate what I DO have. If I focused on the overtime cuts, or the bonusesless x-mas we're about to have, I could get VERY depressed. Instead, I choose to look at it as a learning experience. I've been very fortunate in the happiness department lately, and taking this little blip in the economy on the nose is
Endured best when you have a positive attitude. Remember, it's all relative.
Starting each day with a smile and thanking God each night before you go to bed is such a good habit to get into. Or, not even thanking God, just being thankful for your loving family, your health, your happiness...

Take this time to take your focus off "things" and put some new emphasis on your spouse or children. Becoming creative allows room for growth. I don't know about you but stressing less over gifts and possessions has actually really taken a lot of pressure of me this year...

Personally, these past few months have let me evaluate what is most precious in my life. My friends, family and owning the small piece of the pie that is not just mine, but ours. Craig, Charlotte's and mine. And I love our small, discount, day old piece of the pie. It's sweeter than anything I ever could've asked for at the finest restaurant.

I hear you. My trick is to do some math, even estimated. Statistically, in the world, I am one of the 0.4% (or less, the more factors I figure in) who live in a quiet country, above the poverty line, with a job, a house and surrounded by good people. I am grateful.
